Stem Cell Therapy in Panama has become hugely popular, especially for patients from the U.S. and Canada where regulations are stricter. Many people come here because they can access treatments that aren’t available in their home countries, like expanded umbilical cord-derived stem cells. You might have heard of a few UFC fighters travelling over here!
But it’s not without risks. Regulations aren’t as tight as in places like the U.S., which means clinic quality can vary. Some providers also make big promises without enough clinical backing, so it’s important to do your homework before committing.
In this guide, we’ll break down:
- How Panama stacks up against other countries offering stem cell therapy.
- What’s legal and what’s not when it comes to stem cell therapy in Panama.
- The types of treatments available and how much they cost.
- Potential risks to be aware of before traveling for treatment.
If you’re considering getting stem cell therapy in Panama, this article will help you make an informed decision.
Is Stem Cell Therapy Legal in Panama in 2025?
No, according to Panama’s Transplant Law & Medicine’s Law, commercial Stem Cell Treatments are not legal as of September 2025
The only treatments that are legal are Hematopoietic stem cell (bone marrow) transplant for leukemia, lymphoma or other blood diseases.
That doesn’t mean you can’t get treatment here. Enforcement from the government is lax so clinics can operate freely. So you can get a wide variety of treatments for nearly all conditions.
But, that also means there’s no government enforcement or checks on quality, it’s the wild west.
We’re not saying don’t visit Panama for treatment, it’s just something you have to be extremely aware of.
Panama Stem Cell Cost 2025
In Panama, Stem Cell Therapy costs range from $9,000 to $35,000. Factors that affect price are your condition & volume of cells being used.
We’ve gathered our pricing data in a few different ways & we’re always updating it!
It’s not cheap, but it’s still more affordable than in places like the U.S. or Canada.
Here’s a rough idea of what to expect:
- Orthopedic treatments ranges from $9,000 – $12,000
- Neurological conditions: $15,000 – $25,000
- Full-body regenerative treatments: $20,000 – $30,000+
A few things can drive the cost up or down:
- How many stem cell injections you need
- Whether the clinic is using cultured (expanded) stem cells
While Panama is more affordable than the U.S., it’s still on the higher end compared to places like India or Colombia. If you want to compare average costs around the world, our article on the Stem Cell Therapy prices in different countries might be a good read!
Best Stem Cell Therapy clinics in Central & South America
We don’t let any clinic just sign up or pay to be listed.

We speak to every clinic directly and review their medical team, the treatments they offer, how their stem cells are sourced and how they follow up with patients after treatment.

We also review licensing documents to confirm they meet the legal and medical standards of the country they operate in. For example, whether cells are processed in a GMP-certified facility or if they provide documentation on stem cell quality.

Clinics must also agree to let us collect and publish independent patient reviews. Both positive and negative.

Is Panama good for Stem Cell Therapy?
Yes, Panama is one of the most popular destinations for stem cell therapy, especially for patients from the U.S. and Canada looking for high-dose, advanced treatments that aren’t available back home. Again, it’s not legal in Panama but it’s home to several large clinics.
- No Visa Required: we’ve got a whole section on that below!
- More Conditions Treated: Unlike the U.S., UK, or Australia, where stem cell therapy is restricted, Panama offers treatments for neurological disorders, joint injuries, autoimmune diseases, anti-aging etc
- Higher Stem Cell Doses: Clinics in Panama can grow and expand stem cells before injecting them, meaning patients receive far more cells per treatment than in heavily regulated countries.
That’s why many medical tourists choose Panama.
You can get high dosage, umbilical cord derived treatments for a wide variety of conditions.
Don’t book your treatment straight away, read our risks section before you do!

What Stem Cell Treatment Options Are Available in Panama?
In Panama, stem cell therapy is used for everything from joint injuries and neurological disorders to autoimmune conditions and even anti-aging treatments.
Whilst that sounds exciting, it’s a double edged sword, we’ll go through the risks below.
Risks of Getting Stem Cell Therapy in Panama
Panama is a popular destination for stem cell therapy, but not all clinics are created equal. Unlike the U.S. or Europe, where stem cell treatments are tightly regulated, Panama clinics operate outside of the law and have flexibility. But that also means more room for inconsistency.
- Not Legal
- Stem cell Therapy is not legal but there’s no enforcement of regulations. Clinics can operate to whatever standards they want. Make sure you’re doing all the necessary checks on every clinic you speak to.

- Too-Good-To-Be-True Promises
- Some clinics market stem cell therapy as a miracle cure, claiming it can reverse chronic conditions or even aging. The reality? While stem cells have potential, no treatment comes with guaranteed success. If a clinic is promising 100% effectiveness, that’s a red flag.

- Medical Tourism Challenges
- If something goes wrong, Panama doesn’t have the same malpractice laws as the U.S. or Canada.

That said, you’ll still need to meet a few basic entry requirements:

Treatments normally last around a week, but if you’re staying longer than 90 days, you may need a visa extension or temporary residency
Before you book your trip, it’s always a good idea to double-check with the Panamanian consulate in case any rules have changed!
